Finally in the last week I've found some time to pour into the website, and I'm pretty satisfied with the results. I've redone both the System Buyers Guide and the backend to the Articles entry system. If you look in the articles section you'll find a bunch of tips, I'll be doing some full length articles in the near future. You can also count on some major improvements in the site as well, as well as new sections.

I've also done some major hardware upgrades, the server is now a Dual P3 450 Mhz machine with lots of goodies. If you want to see the complete listing check out Specs link located at the bottom left. We should be ready for a heavy load.

Well todays upgrade turned from a 15 minute downtown to nearly half a day. The board I got was too big for the case (full size ATX 13 inches deep), so I had to take it down to the store to test (so I took the CPU + ram). After getting there I found out another store on the side of town was trying to flog off a display model (21" alienware clone), so I jumped on that. I then brought the box back home and installed the remaining hardware into this box. After I rebooted I came across a glitch regarding the Adaptec drivers + Intel N440BX motherboard + Linux 2.4.21 problems (My previous SE440BX board had no problems with either of my Adaptec cards). At which point I was called off on a service call for work. After 2 hours of work I finally got this box back up using the onboard scsi (I had to rebuild the original server to recompile the kernel). The system also now has 512 megs of ram (up from the 160 at the beginning of the month). If you notice any system problems fire me an email.

Well we might have some big news ahead that will lead to a host of new offerings on the site, with a whole lot more bandwidth behind us. In preparion for this event I've been fine tuning my Linux configuration, check out my Specs page located in the bottom left corner for server details. I've also got some major upgrades for this system scheduled within the next week and a half, so there may be a little downtime. I'de do it in the early hours but this is something that I've been trying to get off of Ebay for several months now. I'll post the details when I get everything into place.

After 3 years of putting it off, I finally took the initiative and joined VLUG last night. The winning factor was the fact that they were screening a DVD documentary on Linux and the Open Source Software called OS Revolution (IMDB Information ). I really enjoyed this film, but you definately need atleast one intermissions. I'de also suggest not viewing this with your significant other, unless there a programmer, linux enthuisast, or a computer student. All the movers and the shakers of the Open Source Movement are in here, with a history of how everything came together. You won't be seeing any of these guys forming boy bands any time soon, nor getting a sun tan. They can also be a little fanatical (except for my hero Linus), next time I watch this movie I'de like to count how many times I hear the word GNU. GNU stands for GNU's Not Unix, which is an organization devoted to free software. On a side note our recently completed Capstone project I worked on at Camosun College, is GNU licensed (opensource) registered with sourceforge.

All of our services are $5/hr off for VLUG members (Windows & Linux).
